RDAT-Pro™ is a Radar signal Distortion Analysis Tool specially customized to perform complex radar to obstacles line of sight evaluations. RDAT-Pro uses a comprehensive WGS84 earth geodetic model and digital terrain elevation data (DTED ) at specific locations and across large areas of interest. Given the EMI models of specific obstacles (or a generic model), RDAT-Pro depicts the expected affected areas.

WGS84 Earth Geodetic Model: Great Circle Calculation and various Aeronautical Databases: Airports ( • ), ASR Radars ( • ) and ARSR Radars ( • ).

RDAT-Pro interacts with various aeronautical databases (including radars such as ASR and ARSR), and allows the operator to enter other items (including user radars) not currently in the database. This level of flexibility makes the process of optimizing a solution fast and efficient.

The RDAT-Pro Evaluation Process

No area is too big for RDAT-Pro. The following slides illustrate the area grid evaluation process using RDAT-Pro:

Step 1: Define an Area of Interest to be evaluated by “mouse clicking” a polygon:

Step 2: Select (1) the location of the radar, (2) the height above terrain of the obstacle under consideration, and (3) click the “Evaluate Grid” button.

RDAT-Pro evaluates the entire area, and colors areas RED where an obstacle of the given height is visible from the radar location and GREEN where the obstacle can be placed without having line of sight to the facility.

Step 3: Select the preferred background. Results can be presented on top of DTED or overlaid on top of Aeronautical sectional charts, as shown below.

Step 4: Given an Electro-Magnetic Interference (EMI) model, RDAT-Pro will calculate and display the areas expected to be affected by the obstacle(s) under consideration. Affected areas can be color coded to depict different level of expected effect (radar signal distortion).

RDAT-Pro features a “mouse sensitive” display that provides context-sensitive information to the user.
